Frequently Asked Questions
I want to register my school. How can I do that?
First check to see if your school is already listed in our database.
search for existing schools by zip code
If your school is already listed, you will have an opportunity to register as a new teacher for that school.
If your school is not yet listed, you will have an opportunity to add a new school.
I participated last year, but I don't have a username. What should I do?
You will need to re-register as a new teacher for an existing school.

I am currently teaching a Web design course.
Can my students submit their work at the end of the semester?
Our call for entries runs throughout the month of October each year. If your students will have their Web sites
ready by our deadline, they are welcome to submit their work. However, it is not likely that students with just
a few months of training in Web design will be sufficiently prepared to be competitive in our program. Your
students are welcome to continue to improve their sites over the coming year and then submit them next fall.
What are the categories in your competition?
There are no categories in our competition. Web sites that meet certain minimum standards in each of our
judging criteria are nominated to be reviewed by our full judging panel. The
nominated sites are rated in each of our nine judging criteria and then the top overall winners are announced.
We will also announce the Web sites with the highest score in each judging area (for example, the Web site with
the best aesthetic integrity).
Do students need to create their Web site specifically for The Student Web Awards?
No, entries do not need to be created exclusively for our competition. Students may submit personal home pages,
Web sites they created for a class project, sites designed for an organization or company, or any other Web
sites they may have created.
Can only computer teachers sponsor students?
No, all teachers are welcome to register with us. We frequently have science teachers, art teachers, and others
serve as teacher sponsors. The primary role of the teacher sponsor is to guide students and ensure they understand
and adhere to our entry guidelines and other policies, especially concerning legal areas like plagiarism and
copyright infringement.
Can homeschooled students participate?
We currently only allow participation from public, private, or parochial secondary schools that are accredited
or recognized by a state department or board of education. We are exploring options for homeschooled students
to participate in the future.
